What is included in a Standard interior?
A Standard Layout service means that the layout of your manuscript – which you are already happy with – will be retained, but we will help you to add new design elements. You can choose whether you would like help with the design of:
- Elements on your chapter pages;
- Headings on your pages;
- Margin index, in other words, thumb tabs;
- Page numbering.
When designing these aspects, you can choose from a number of templates.
How exactly does this work?
Following an initial consultation with our coordinator, you’ll complete an online form to set out your requirements and upload your manuscript. This process takes no longer than 1½ hours. You will then receive a print-ready version of your thesis for review within 2 working days. If you spot anything you can amend yourself, you can send us a revised manuscript. If you wish to make changes to the elements we have prepared for you, please 1 A round of corrections is available to you. Read more about correction rounds here. You will then receive a version with improvements to the design, and the printing process can begin with your consent.
When is this the best choice for me?
The DIY interior may be the best choice for you in the following situations:
- You are already happy with the current layout of your manuscript;
- Your thesis was produced using LaTeX;
- Your thesis contains a large number of equations or highly complex equations;
- Your thesis frequently switches between scripts with different directions of writing, such as Hebrew, Chinese or Arabic;
- You have created a lot of diagrams or charts in Microsoft Word.

What is not included?
At Persoonlijk Proefschrift, we aim to offer a comprehensive service at a fixed price. For this reason, our DIY option – where both you and we carry out work – is clearly defined.
If you’re looking for something that isn’t covered by this option, we’re always happy to help! In that case, please discuss any additional costs with us. Read more about this in this article.
Additional charges apply to DIY interior work in the following circumstances:
- Textual or substantive changes to the manuscript, such as corrections to spelling or grammar;
- Applying our design elements to your manuscript more than twice because you are submitting new versions;
- Producing multiple versions of your content, for example, with and without supplementary materials, or differences between your online and printed versions.
