How long does it take to write your dissertation?
A question we naturally receive regularly is how long the design and printing process takes. While this often depends heavily on your wishes and the specifications for the design or printing of your dissertation, to give you an idea, we provide below an indication of how long things take on average.
How long does it take to format your dissertation?
The most important advice we can give is: take your time. The process can always be faster, but that doesn't make it more enjoyable. To go through the process stress-free, it is better to start a little earlier.
Design of the Personal Thesis Package (the interior and a standard cover)
The design of this package takes an average of 3-4 weeks. This is from the moment the order is placed until the design, print-ready files are delivered to the printer.
Design of the Premium package (an interior and a custom cover)
The design of this package takes an average of 4-5 weeks. This also runs from the moment the order is placed until the designed files are delivered to the printer.
Can I deviate from the average time for writing a dissertation?
Of course, it can also be faster or slower than average. Below, we outline some situations where this is the case:
What factors can cause the design process to take longer than average?
- If your dissertation has more than 30 tables. We format tables by hand, so that takes more time;
- If you want more than three rounds of revisions for the design;
- If you are still waiting for approval, meaning we cannot start yet, or if you can otherwise only submit your files later, causing a delay in the schedule.
- If you do not provide timely feedback or responses to your designer during the process.
- If you prefer to take your time with the design, create a more generous schedule with your designer.
What factors can cause the design process to proceed faster than average?
- If you want or find you need fewer than three rounds of corrections;
- If you use our expedited process;
- If you have a very small dissertation with few tables and/or figures;
- If you are able to react quickly and provide feedback to your designer during the process.
- If you already have everything that needs to be submitted correctly prepared (see also our submission specifications).
How long does it take to print your dissertation?
The time required for printing always depends heavily on your print run, choices of paper types and any special finishes, as well as the current workload at the printer. On average, you should allow about 1.5 to 2 weeks for printing. This includes receiving and reviewing a proof.
