What is a standard cover?
In this article, we explain exactly what a Standard Cover for a Personal Thesis entails, and when it is the best choice for you.
What is included in a Standard cover?
A Standard cover design involves a designer creating a cover for you based on examples and ideas that you provide. This cover option includes design work for the following elements:
- The front, back, spine and any inner pages of the cover;
- The front and back of a bookmark or invitation;
- One image for your chapter pages, based on the cover image
How exactly does this work?
With us, you’ll get a personal designer who will be responsible for the design. They will listen carefully to your requirements and guide you through the process. You can read more about the design process here.
Our process involves rounds of revisions, during which you can provide feedback to the designer. With a Standard cover, you have 3 rounds of corrections. Read more about correction rounds here.
When is this the best choice for me?
The Standard cover is our most popular option, as most PhD students already have ideas and visions for their cover design. If that sounds like you, we recommend a Standard cover.
This option isn’t the best choice if you don’t yet know what you’re looking for. In that case, it’s a good idea to first to find inspiration, for example by looking at which of if our examples appeal to you, or collect other books and examples. Or consider our Extended cover option, where one of our experienced illustrators will develop a concept for you.
This option isn’t the best choice if you’re short on time. Depending on how much time you have before your thesis is due, it may therefore be better for you to make use of our express options. We’d be happy to tell you more about that here.
What is not included?
At Persoonlijk Proefschrift, we aim to offer a comprehensive package at a fixed price. Our Standard cover option therefore includes everything that, based on our many years’ experience as thesis designers, is essential for a stunning cover.
If you’re looking for something that isn’t covered by this option, we’re always happy to help! In that case, please discuss any additional costs with us. Read more about this in this article.
Additional charges apply for a Standard cover:
- More than the number of correction rounds included;
- Creating more than one version of your cover, for example softcover and hardcover versions;
- The use of special cover finishes, such as silver foil or die-cuts;
- An illustration for your chapter page which requires more design work than simply cutting out and repositioning the illustration on your cover;
- A different illustration for each chapter or section of your thesis.
