What does an average dissertation look like?
We have formatted hundreds of theses over the years. This means that our designers are experienced, but it also means that we have a wealth of data on how a thesis is structured. In this article, we share what an ‘average thesis’ looks like.
We are sometimes asked what an average PhD thesis looks like. Our answer is always: ‘It doesn’t matter’. After all, what matters is not how someone else has written and formatted their thesis, but the quality of your research and the originality of the design. However, we did take a look at the statistics to give an idea of how fellow PhD students go about writing a thesis. We examined the average length of a thesis and how many tables and figures it typically contains.
Bear in mind that these figures are averages. Each subject requires a different approach; for example, a microscopy study involves far more images than a statistical analysis.

An average thesis contains:
190 pages
26 figures
20 tables
Your thesis may differ slightly from these figures, but that’s no problem for us! We charge a fixed price for the layout of your entire thesis. So it doesn’t matter if your thesis contains a few more pages, figures or tables.
Still unsure whether your thesis is well structured from a technical point of view? Then take a application and we’ll carry out a no-obligation file check to see if your thesis is ready for printing or layout.
