We’re delighted that you’re interested in applying for a job with us!
As we are constantly growing, we are often on the lookout for new designers. We work with a large group of freelancers and are looking for a cover designer to join our team for 12 to 16 hours a week!
What are you going to do?
We are looking for enterprising designers to join our design team who enjoy channelling their creativity into designing thesis covers. As a cover designer at Persoonlijk Proefschrift, you will design the cover of a thesis (based on the client’s requirements) and prepare it as print-ready files. The cover is the eye-catcher of the thesis, and it’s up to you to turn it into a showpiece. Whilst you’ll carry out this work within existing guidelines, you’ll also be expected to contribute a great deal of creative input.
You can work with us for around 12–16 hours a week, and you can organise your own hours. If you’d prefer to start a bit later in the day, that’s no problem at all! You decide when you work, in consultation with your client.
Are you looking for flexible design projects where you can put your creativity to good use, alongside your own freelance work? Then we’ve got just the thing for you!
Who are we looking for?
A freelance cover designer for 12–16 hours.
Are you:
- Experienced in dealing with your own (self-employed/freelance) clients, and aware of the responsibility that this entails;
- Experienced in various design styles;
- Good at developing ideas and identifying the client’s wishes and ideas;
- Being able to deal with a wide variety of customers and, consequently, their requirements;
- Proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator (as well as InDesign);
- Experience of working with AI, or a willingness to get to grips with it;
- Organised and attentive – can you continue to work accurately under time pressure?
- Do you work independently and take responsibility for the entire process?
- Meticulous, with a natural eye for detail?
- Are you a friendly and sociable person who’d like to join our team?
The team
Our team consists of passionate and responsible designers who set their own working hours, whether working from home or from our office. The designers have experience in scientific research or the visual presentation of such research, and come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Each designer works independently on their assignment, but can rely completely on the support and advice of their colleagues. Although we work individually, the atmosphere is excellent and very collegial.
Who are we?
Although we design theses, our focus is on the people who have worked on these theses for (at least) four years with blood, sweat and tears: the PhD candidates. That’s why our designers interact with our clients in a way that’s both communicatively strong and informal and personal. This is also why we place such a high value on a friendly and engaged culture. If you’d like to be part of a team of enterprising, committed and, above all, friendly people, you’ve come to the right place ;-).
A small selection from our team:
We offer
- Firstly, we’ll provide you with training to become a fully-fledged designer specialising in theses. Our designers have already laid out hundreds of theses: by sharing this knowledge with you and making it clear, we grow stronger as a team and you’ll learn all the ins and outs of InDesign. Every new designer therefore starts work with confidence. We provide in-house training in the design of theses.
- Flexible working hours and locations: you decide when you want to work and where you do so. You know best how to plan effectively and get the most out of your work.
- A fixed fee per order you complete: this depends on the type of order. If you’re quick and skilled, this works out at a favourable hourly rate. You’ll need to take on board and apply what you learn during the training properly, though.
So, you’d like to work with us?
We’d love to hear more about who you are and why you’d be a good fit to work with us. Please include this in your cover letter. If you have a particular degree or specific work experience that’s relevant, we’d love to hear about it. In any case, please take note of the criteria and guidance on this page, so you know what we’re looking for.
If you have a portfolio, we’d of course love to see it. If not, that’s fine, but please do put together a few examples of your work.
